For those who love Sacramento’s rich history Building 212 is a unique, hip and trendy venue situated right in the middle of  Alkali Flats, the oldest neighborhood remaining in Sacramento.  In 1852 a large fire destroyed most of the residential and commercial buildings of downtown Sacramento but Alkali Flats remained unharmed. If you love the marriage between historical and mid-modern this is the perfect venue for any event, small weddings, a fundraiser or a corporate gathering.

Industrial, mid-modern contemporary, Building 212  provides a blank canvas for any occasion. Concrete floors, a lime stone bench for seating or a small stage, exposed duct-work and high ceilings with wood beams give way to a modern space with endless possibilities. Before entering the main event space guests can mingle for a cocktail hour in the foyer. This space is large enough to set up a small bar or have servers passing appetizers or cocktails throughout. Once entering the main space your eye is drawn to the openness, warmth and the raw, very fun, industrial feel.

In the corner sits a stairwell leading up to the perfect tucked-away space to position your DJ, place couches for guest to take a quite break from the dance floor, or have a bride get ready and descend the stairs for the ceremony. The white walls and exposed ceilings allow for designers to do custom build-outs, hang fabric draping, candle enclosed lanterns… simply make the decor  your own. For day events natural light shines perfectly through the walls of windows bringing the outside in.

On temperate days, doors can be opened  and the space can be expanded into the front.  If lucky, a train may roll past for the romantic sounds of the clicking on the tracks. Custom cabinetry built by the 14th Street Millworks, a furniture company who houses the back of the building, lines the walls and can be used for a buffet or bar. Caterers will appreciate the kitchen arrangement. Building 212 makes for a unique rehearsal dinner space for downtown/midtown weddings.

Subtle hints of the buildings former life remain as the parking spaces still printed, although faintly, read  Sacramento Theatrical Lighting Company.  For years they operated out of Building 212. In fact, our own Vixen, Kendra Wershing met her husband here when she worked for the Company.

There is a modern art feeling you get the moment you walk into Building 212.  Saying this is a blank canvas again is an understatement, any planner, organizer or coordinator would jump at the chance to take this urban industrial space and make it even more unique. The possibilities are endless!
